Cape Cod A.R.E.S.

(Amateur Radio Emergency Services)

ARES is a public service organization of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), which consists of licensed amateur radio operators who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for communications when disaster strikes or for public events.

The Cape Cod ARES group is headed up by Frank O'Laughlin,WQ1O. This is a very active group and approaches there volunteer service with a high level of professionalism and preparedness. For further information on the ARES structure please read this description

Our team is constantly in the field training and testing different communications methods, under different circumstances.  This is essential to being useful in a time of  need, "testing" in an emergency is never good!  The drills and training we do allows our members to respond, and deploy known working communications practices, in a short amount of time. Communication services may be as simple as using a walkie-talkie and our existing repeaters for public service events. Large events may even warrant setting up a separate repeater system solely for event traffic.  Deploying into an area that has had all infrastructure destroyed man portable VHF / HF radios that will cover a sever hundred mile range.

Weekly ARES Net...

The net meets Wednesdays at 20:00 hours on the 146.955 repeater.  All are welcome to check in.  The net discuses local items of interest and gives us a chance and reminder to check back up equipment / systems.
